They also say their pleas for an exterminator or request to relocate to another apartment have been ignored. ![]() The Aponte Family exclaims it's been living a nightmare for four years. "We turned to housing to help us out, it's like they don't care," Jose Aponte said. "It's just humiliating and embarrassing," Blanche said. They spent their own money trying to get rid of them, too, but no luck. Fast forward to the present and the family says they are still living with the nuisance even after making numerous complaints to the New York City Housing Authority for an exterminator. It happened in 2012 when one trip to the doctor confirmed the bug that bit her son was indeed a bed bug. "My son woke up one night complaining of being bit, we went into his room to see what was going on, pulled back his covers, saw black bugs crawling around on his sheets," Blanche Aponte said. Blanche and Jose Aponte say their apartment in the Mariners Harbor Houses is plagued by bed bugs and no family should have to live the way they do. ![]()
